GRADUATE STUDENTS CLUB OF SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS 2024 ACTIVITIES REPORT

In 2024, the Graduate Students’ Council (GSC) organized and supported an impressive array of events and initiatives to enhance academic, professional, and cultural engagement. The year began with an ASEAN Study Trip to Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on March 7, followed by the Handing Over Ceremony to new executives on May 31. On June 11, GSC hosted a seminar titled “Some thoughts on publishing in high-quality journals,” delivered by Profs. Drs. Vigay and Manisha Singal. In July, GSC was actively involved in several activities, including supporting a meet-and-greet session with Trimester students (July 1), hosting the PSIM IPB 2024 International Academic Visit at SBE-UPM (July 3), and organizing meet-and-greet events with Prof. Dr. Normaz Wana Ismail, Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation) (July 3), and Associate Prof. Dr. Anuar Shah Bali Mahomed, Deputy Dean (Graduates) (July 10). The council also facilitated a training session on time management using Google applications, conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syamsul Herman Mohd Afandi, on July 11, and organized a meet-and-greet with Dr. Meor Rashydan Abdullah, Assistant Dean (Alumni and Student Relations), on July 19.

GSC’s activities extended to national celebrations, joining Malaysia in commemorating Merdeka Day on August 31, and collaborating with the School of Business and Economics (SBE) to host the Malaysia-Japan Future Sustainability event on September 3-4. Other highlights included a meet-and-greet with Kyushu University students (September 5), engaging with Prof. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin, Dean of SBE, on September 10, and participating in impactful programs such as the Angkat Sekolah program (September 14) and MAHA 2024 (September 18). In October, GSC facilitated a Teh Tarik session with Prof. Law Sion Hook (October 7) and a study trip to Huawei Malaysia (October 28).

November witnessed continued collaboration and leadership, including the International Youth Leader Summit on November 2, hosting Kyushu Institute of Technology students on November 4-5, and collaborating with the MBA Clubs for a meeting with SBE GT Lab on November 8. GSC supported the organization of a meet-and-greet session with new graduate students on November 13, a study trip to the Malaysia Parliament on November 18, and joined SBE’s Golden Jubilee celebration on November 23. The month concluded with GSC’s support for the SBE Career Day (November 28) and participation in the Hooding Ceremony (December 3). On December 4, GSC celebrated the inauguration of GGEP and the appointment of GSC and MBA club executives.

The council concluded the year with a talk by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Karbhari on December 18 and continued its participation in the World Bank weekly seminars, monthly executive meetings, and weekly Econometrics training sessions led by Dr. Mahmoud Abdelrehim. Additionally, GSC executives hosted regular SBE seminars, supporting Master’s, PhD, MBA, and Trimester programs, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to fostering a vibrant academic and professional community.
