Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

	DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PH.D.) Overview:   The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme aims to produce scholars who will lead in their respective fields of research. There are eleven (11) fields of study offered by SBE namely: Management Marketing Human Resource Management Business Economics Finance Corporate Leadership Accounting Hospitality Tourism Business Law Economics   Candidates pursuing this degree should be capable of conducting independent research in their fields or related areas. Graduates from this programme can be employed in academia, research institution or public and private agencies. Candidates are required to provide a brief outline of their proposed research to ensure that their research interests match the expertise of faculty members. Upon enrolment, each student will be assigned with an academic advisor, who will guide them in organizing their studies.   Curriculum Structure   The Ph.D. program consist of course work, seminar, comprehensive examination (CE), thesis, and viva voce (thesis examination). Candidates are required to complete 3 credit hours of coursework consisting of a compulsory research methodology course (3 credit hours). Candidates are required to register for a seminar (1 credit) course which is offered every semester. Candidates must pass the CE prior to commencing their research. Candidates must present and pass the viva voce (thesis examination). More information on list of courses, CLICK HERE   Entry Requirements   A master’s degree by search in the field or related fields accepted by the UPM Senate; and subject to rigorous internal assessment by the School; Or A master’s degree by coursework in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 3.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate; and subject to rigorous internal assessment by the School; Or A master’s degree by coursework in the field or related fields with a CGPA ranging from 3.500 to 3.749 or equivalent as accepted by the UPM Senate; and subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field; rigorous internal assessment by the School; Or Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree recognised by the Government of Malaysia with a minimum CGPA of 3.750 or equivalent as accepted by the UPM Senate; and subject to rigorous internal assessment by the School. Candidates without a related qualification in the field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the school; Or A Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions: A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with first-class or its equivalent; Undergo internal assessment by the school; AND Any other requirement of the school.       English Requirements   FULL ADMISSION: For full admission, an international applicant must have obtained a minimum score of: - Band 6.5 for IELTS (Academic Version): or 79-94 for the TOEFL Internet-based Test: or Band 4.0 (Score 211-257) for MUET: or 63 for PTE Academic; or Level 109 for CIEP: or 176 for Cambridge Linguaskill; or B2 of CEFR: or Its equivalent.   Note: The validity period should not be more than two years.
