THREE OF SPE UPM'S SUBJECTS RANKED TOP 200 BEST IN THE WORLD

SERDANG, April 6 2022 - The ranking of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has continued to improve and ranked number one in Malaysia for two subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 compared to last year only one subject was listed.

UPM’s Veterinary Science was ranked 60th best in the world, making this subject ranked number one in Malaysia for the first time.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan, congratulated all the staff and students who had supported the success of all the subjects involved.

"The achievements of all these subjects show that UPM has successfully developed an international reputation for academic standards and the quality of graduates," he said.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan said UPM's Agriculture and Forestry was ranked 80th best in the world and maintained its first position in the ranking in Malaysia for ten consecutive years.

"UPM managed to maintain its track record despite facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic when UPM members managed to adapt to changes with new normative practices in the learning and teaching system, research and innovation as well as industry and community network," he said.

Apart from that, the existence of the Veterinary Hospital and the Animal Anatomy Museum was seen as one of the main contributors to this achievement, and the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were the founding faculties since UPM started its academic session on July 23, 1973.

UPM's overall achievement in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 included 24 subjects that were successfully ranked the 450th best in the world, and 14 of them were in the 200th best in the world.

This had shown that there was an increase in two new subjects listed in this ranking compared to last year only 22 subjects were listed.

Referring to the evaluation method of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022, four indicators were used, namely Academic Peer Review, Employer Peer Review, Citations and H-Index. However, the weightage for each subject evaluated varied.
