Prof. Muhammad Yunus, a Noble Prize winner and UPM Doctoral Business Award recipient, serves as an advisor to the YSBC at UPM. UPM joined the Malaysian Yunus Social Business Network (MYSBN) in 2017, the fourth after Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Universiti Teknologi Petronas, followed by Sunway University, INTI International University, and Albukhary International University.

At YSBC@UPM, Professor Yunus is also acting as the Renong Chair Professor.  As the founder of Grameen Bank, pioneering the concepts of microcredit and social business and founding more than 50 social Business companies in Bangladesh, Professor Yunus is the best candidate to sit for Renong Chair Professor. His constant innovation and enterprise has caused the Fortune Magazine to name Professor Yunus in March 2012 as “one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time”. At the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Professor Yunus was conferred with the Olympic Laurel Award for his extensive work in sports for development, bringing the concept of social business to the sports world.

 

Professor Yunus is the recepient of 63 honorary degrees from universities across 26 countries. He is one of only seven individuals to have receieved the Nobel  Peace Prize, the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom and the United States Congressional Gold Medal. He has appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, Newsweek and Forbes Magazine.
