UPM and Pingtan Institute of Xiamen University (XMUPT) Signs MoU to Strengthen International Collaboration, Particularly in Joint Research and Implementation of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs.

 

China, April 28, 2024 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the School of Business and Economics (SPE), has established a strategic partnership with Pingtan Institute of Xiamen University (XMUPT) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Xiamen University, China, to bolster international collaboration, especially in joint research and the implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UPM, witnessed by Prof. Dr. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin (Dean of SPE) on behalf of UPM, while XMUPT was represented by Prof. Dr. Lin Fan (Rector, Pingtan Institute of Xiamen University). Additionally, present at the event from UPM were Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail (Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International) and Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Anuar Shah Bali Mahomed (Deputy Dean of SPE Graduate Studies). From XMUPT, attendees included Prof. Dr. Zhang Mingzhi (Deputy Rector), Prof. Dr. Dong Lunhai (Deputy Rector), Prof. Dr. Lin Fangfang (Director of Educational Services), and Dr. Chen Yongming (Director of Industry).

The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Wu Kejian (Minister, Secretary of Education, Hong Kong Government), Prof. Dr. Wong Wing Keung (Chairman, UNESCO SDG Charity Foundation Committee, Hong Kong), Prof. Dr. Lu Lu (Cultural Counselor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China), Prof. Dr. Sun Yue (Chairman, Hong Kong Association for Continuing Education), and Prof. Dr. Chen Chufeng (President, Hong Kong Talent International Education Limited).

Through this collaboration, SPE will engage in joint research with Pingtan Institute of Xiamen University, China. Additionally, the collaboration involves the implementation of SPE's Postgraduate Offshore Programmes, expected to commence from the November 2024 intake after obtaining approval. Among the proposed programs are coursework-based Master's programs such as MBA, Master of Economics, Master of Finance, Master of Entrepreneurship, and two new programs pending approval: Master of Human Resource and Organization, and Master in Sustainable Accounting.

Agreed-upon collaborations also include various initiatives, including offering Joint Bachelor's and Postgraduate Programs or Dual Degrees, staff and student exchanges, international visits between the two universities, and student mobility programs.

This collaboration reflects both parties' determination to build strong educational relationships and pursue innovation through knowledge sharing. Additionally, it creates opportunities to become strategic partners in academic exchange and mobility for lecturers and researchers, thereby supporting UPM's SPE initiative in enhancing lifelong learning. Pingtan Institute of Xiamen University's proactive efforts in collaborating with external institutions, including UPM, are also crucial factors in strengthening this collaboration.
