Marking five decades of transformation, growth, and success, the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) on 23 November 2024 was more than just an anniversary—it was a moment to reflect on an extraordinary legacy. This milestone commemorates 50 years of SBE’s evolution from its origins as the Faculty of Resource Economics and Agribusiness to its current status as a globally recognized leader in business and economics education. It stands as a tribute to the collective efforts of visionary leaders, faculty, students, alumni, and partners who have contributed to its impactful journey.

In his welcoming address, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin, Dean of SBE, reflected on the institution’s remarkable achievements, including its prestigious dual AACSB and EQUIS accreditations. “These accreditations are not merely badges of honor but a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence in education, research, and industry engagement,” he stated, emphasizing the pursuit of AMBA accreditation to achieve the elite Triple Crown status. He extended gratitude to the former deans and administrative teams whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for SBE’s success.

A particularly inspiring moment came from Pn. Nor Yati Ahmad, the Accountant General of Malaysia and an esteemed alumni of SBE. With over 28 years of experience in public service, Pn. Nor Yati holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Universiti Putra Malaysia, circa 1993. She is a prominent figure in the Malaysian accounting community, serving on various advisory boards. Her heartfelt call for alumni to reconnect and give back to their alma mater deeply resonated with attendees, strengthening the spirit of unity.

A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of SBE’s new logo, symbolising a bold new chapter in the school’s history. This was complemented by the launch of the Give Back Fund, an initiative that invites alumni and partners to contribute to scholarships and programs aimed at empowering future generations of students.

The event was officially launched by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), who acknowledged the invaluable contributions of SBE’s pioneers, faculty, alumni, and students. His words underscored the collective effort that has propelled SBE to global recognition and inspired the vision for its continued excellence.

The event gathered a vibrant community of alumni, esteemed guests, and current students to celebrate the legacy of SBE and inspire its continued mission of fostering leaders, driving change, and creating societal impact. A captivating violin performance added to the grandeur of the event, and generous pledges, including a significant contribution toward upgrading tutorial rooms, showcased the collective spirit of giving.

As SBE looks to the future, its vision is clear: to continue building on its strong legacy, fostering excellence, and nurturing leaders who will shape a brighter future. The celebration was not only a tribute to the past 50 years but also a call to action for the next 50, ensuring that SBE remains a beacon of innovation and impact in the region and beyond.
