Throughout its history, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has been a provider of electrical energy to the nation of Malaysia. In Peninsular Malaysia, it has become the most experienced and well-established provider of electricity. Moreover, TNB is listed on the main board of the Bursa Malaysia stock exchange. On November 27, 2023, GSC SPE made use of the chance to gain knowledge from TNB's long history and experience by conducting an industrial visit to the company's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. During the trip visit, the following individuals were present: SPE Dato' Zuraidah Atan, Adjunct Professor, SPE; Associate Professor Dr. Syamsul Herman, GSC Advisor; Dr. Saira Kharudin, Assistant Dean, SPE; and Miss Shahida Noor, Executive Officer of the SPE.  This tour was highly intriguing due to the fact that transport from UPM, Serdang to TNB, Kuala Lumpur was accomplished by means of an electric bus operated by TNB, which produces no carbon emissions. The expenses incurred during the trip were entirely covered by TNB.

Throughout the course of the visit, members of the GSC were given the chance to delve deeper into three critical topics. The first speaker Mrs. Huzairin Radzi, the Head of Sustainability TNB, addressed the complexities of the energy trilemma, analyzing TNB's strategy for transitioning to renewable energy, and highlighting the necessity of sustainability and environmental, social, and governance responsibilities. All three of these subjects were significantly important in their own right. The second lecture delivered by Ir. Ts. Dr. Wan Syakirah bt Dato’ Wan Abdullah, Head Business Assessment & Engineering, TNB Renewables,  served as the centrepiece of the visit. During her presentation, she presented the New Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which included information on solar projects. In addition, she delivered a presentation in which she commented on the efforts that TNB is making in the field of renewable energy. These efforts include the establishment of large-scale solar (LSS) projects in the country as well as the facilitation of cross-border power sales, among other things. In addition, she provided further explanation regarding the New Enchanced Dispatch Agreement (NEDA) initiative, which is a program in which TNB is largely participating. The implementation of TNB's initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy was the subject of the conversation. Following that, there was a question and answer session. During their time working at energy firms in countries such as Pakistan and China, a number of international GSC students shared their ideas and experiences with the group. The utilization of nuclear power plants and wind turbines in the generation of renewable energy was one of the topics that was brought up in the discussion.

Following the conclusion of the tour, the SPE made a suggestion for additional conversations concerning the possibility of TNB and SPE working together on research and development with relation to graduate student education.
