FIRST MALAYSIAN BUSINESS SCHOOL TO RECEIVE EQUIS ACCREDITATION

SERDANG, 1 November  - The School of Business and Economics (SPE), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has received a three-year initial accreditation from the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).

This accreditation is a monumental achievement for Universiti Putra Malaysia, making it the first and only Malaysian university to hold this international recognition. Currently, there are 209 EQUIS-accredited schools across the globe. With an estimated 16,000 business schools worldwide, SPE UPM now joins the 2% elite group of EQUIS-accredited business schools.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Dato' Professor Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said the recognition is a testament to SPE UPM's commitment to providing an excellent education to its students and underscores the quality of UPM business school's programs, faculty and research.

"EQUIS accreditation is a valuable addition to the School's existing AACSB accreditation. It reinforces the School's position as a leading provider of business education in Malaysia and globally", he added.

This achievement is also in line with UPM’s vision which is to become university of international repute.

The Dean of SPE, UPM, Prof. Dr Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin, said that EQUIS accreditation is a significant milestone in the School's journey to becoming one of the leading Asian business schools. "We are incredibly proud to be the first and only homegrown business school in Malaysia to have obtained this prestigious recognition. Such achievement would lead the way for SPE UPM to enhance collaborations with the industry, communities, and other top business schools worldwide”. He also added that this accreditation would provide the School with more opportunities to enhance the quality and marketability of our students.

EQUIS is a leading international system of quality assessment, improvement and accreditation for business and management schools. To achieve this accreditation, SPE UPM underwent a rigorous evaluation process which includes an in-depth self-assessment report, followed by an online visit from a peer review team of international experts.

Areas assessed were all aspects of a business school's operation, benchmarking against international standards in governance, programmes, students, faculty, research, internationalisation, ethics, responsibility and sustainability, and corporate engagement. To be awarded EQUIS accreditation, a business school must demonstrate that it meets the highest international standards in each of these areas.

SPE UPM has a long history of excellence in teaching and research. This accreditation is evidence to the high quality of its programmes and the strong commitment of its faculty and staff to excellence and continuous improvement to provide students with an outstanding learning experience.
