Greetings from The Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEP). We are indeed pleased to have you with us.

The Faculty of Economics and Management (formerly known as the Faculty of Resource Economics and Agribusiness) was first established in January 1974, as the fourth faculty in Universiti Putra Malaysia (then Universiti Pertanian Malaysia). As one of the earlier faculties established in UPM, FEP is committed in achieving its vision to be a leading business school in Malaysia fulfils global expectations.

We have grown impressively in terms of student intake, research activities, number of academic programs and professional services offered. Currently, there are 1894 undergraduate students (which include 391 international students), and 583 graduate students of which 50% are international students. We are also proud to inform that more than 87% of our faculty members hold PhD degree from universities around the world.

The faculty has three academic departments namely economics, accounting and finance, management and marketing; which offers twelve academic programs. The three bachelor level programs are Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Business Administration. At the graduate level, the faculty offers nine programs namely, Masters of Economics (coursework), Masters of Science (Business Economics), Masters of Science (Economics), Masters of Science (Hospitality), Masters of Science (Tourism), PhD in Economics, PhD in Business Economics, PhD in Hospitality and PhD in Tourism. In 1997, FEP established the Executive Program Unit (UPE) to cater for the educational needs of working adults by offering part-time programs to qualified candidates with working experience in the public or private sectors.

In terms of publication and grant, over the last six years (2013-2018), the faculty has recorded a total of 4598 citations, 891 publications in citation indexed journals (CIJ), 87 research books and received 267 local and international research grants with a value of RM12.374 millionThe faculty has also established linkages with industry partners. Since 2013, the faculty has collaborated with SME Corp and Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) to train 94 CEOs from various SMEs companies in enhancing their managerial competencies. In addition, throughout 2017 the faculty’s Executive Development and Industry Linkages Unit (EDIL) has conducted eight professional training programs.

It is a well-known fact that FEP is the first university in Malaysia accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).  AACSB accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. FEP is also ISO 9001:2015 certified. All academic programs have been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). This accreditation and certification shows our commitment and enthusiasm in ensuring high-quality standards. We are now working towards the European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation, which again indicates our commitment to provide excellent educational services as a higher education provider. Since 2005, Bachelor of Accounting program has received both accreditation and exemption from the ACCA.

Sincerely yours,

Dean
