School of Business and Economics (SPE) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Takes Bold Steps in AI Transformation

Serdang, 19 September 2023 - In response to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's call for a national push in artificial intelligence (AI) advancement, the School of Business and Economics (SPE), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is stepping up to lead the way. The Prime Minister emphasized two key challenges faced by Malaysia - the AI skills gap and the need for embedding AI in higher education. SPE is aligning with this vision through its AI Transformation programme, marking a significant stride towards innovation and excellence.

Prof. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin, Dean of the UPM School of Business & Economics (SPE), expressed his excitement about this transformative journey, stating, "Our commitment to innovation is at the heart of this programme. AI has the potential to redefine how we educate the next generation, conduct research and engage with stakeholders."

SPE has organized a two-day intensive AI Transformation programme to kickstart the journey. The programme focuses on exploring AI case studies, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and elevating research capabilities, particularly in areas such as media surveillance, sentiment analysis, and governance foresight.

Prof. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin further explains, "By harnessing AI, we aim to create more efficient, data-driven solutions for academic research and stakeholder engagement. Our goal is to bring the benefits of AI to the forefront of education."

The programme also delves into advancing AI in learning impact assessment and career development, including personalized roadmaps and shaping the vision and mission of the Centre for Educational AI (CEAI@SPEUPM).

With 23 AI-driven initiatives emerging from this transformative programme, SPE is set to revolutionize various aspects of education and beyond. From optimizing student counseling to enhancing alumni engagement and improving admissions processes, these initiatives aim to enhance efficiency and engagement throughout the educational ecosystem.

"These initiatives span the realms of financial sustainability, market forecasting, biodiversity conservation, and entrepreneurship programs, among others. Our journey into AI transformation is not just an evolution; it's a revolution," Prof. Bany Ariffin Amin Noordin concludes. SPE is poised to deliver cutting-edge education and research experiences, ushering in a new era of AI-driven.
