An educational excursion to Bursa Malaysia was organized for graduate students and members of the SPE Graduate Student Club on November 23, 2023. Our tour was accompanied by Dato' Zuraidah Atan, Adjunct Prof, SPE, Associate Prof Dr Syamsul Herman, GSC Advisor, and Miss Ashrifa Ahmad, SPE Executive Officer.

The Bursa Malaysia team greeted us warmly to start the day, setting the tone for an informative meeting.   We are fortunate to have such knowledgeable staff at Bursa Malaysia, and Mrs. Aina Zahari, Director of Corporate Strategy, kicked off the presentations by outlining all of their operations. Her talk shed new light on the stock market's significance in Malaysian finance and its day-to-day operations. Following Mrs. Aina Zahari's presentation, Head of Corporate Strategy Mr. Muhammad Afiq Abdullah took the stage.   He elaborated on Bursa Malaysia's commitment to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria and the idea of a sustainable market. The talk emphasized how important it is to make investments in a responsible and decent way in today's world. We learned about Bursa Malaysia's many initiatives to promote sustainability and include ESG factors in investment decisions.

One standout feature of the visit was the presentation given by Chief Regulatory Officer Mr. Julian Hashim. He used the opportunity to explain the complexities of the stock exchange and market. The presenter clearly has an in-depth understanding of the complex processes that impact the stock market. We learned more about how the market works, which includes the many players in the market, the steps involved in trading, and the regulatory framework that keeps the exchange running smoothly. Mrs. AA Deepa, the Senior VP of Education and Group Sustainability, gave an enthralling speech about financial education. She brought attention to the efforts made by Bursa Malaysia to educate the public about money and trading in the market. We were deeply impressed by the exchange's commitment to promoting financial literacy and inclusivity. Mrs. AA Deepa's speech served as a sobering reminder of the critical importance of financial education in empowering people to make intelligent decisions about their money.   During our tour, we got the chance to interact with the experts at Bursa Malaysia, where we gained valuable knowledge and had all of our questions answered. Thanks to everyone's insightful presentations and discussions, we now fully understand the role that Bursa Malaysia plays in Malaysia's financial landscape. Having completed the tour, we now have a better understanding of the stock market's complexities and a greater appreciation for the value of financially literate and environmentally conscious investing.

In the end, our educational tour of Bursa Malaysia was a really eye-opening experience. Our sincere gratitude goes out to Mrs. AA Deepa, Mr. Muhammad Afiq Abdullah, Mr. Julian Hashim, and Mrs. Aina Zahari for the invaluable insights they shared throughout their presentations. We are eager to apply what we have learned throughout our time at Bursa Malaysia to further our education in the field of finance and investment. Bursa Malaysia deserves praise for its commitment to openness, sustainability, and financial education; we look forward to seeing how it grows and impacts Malaysia's financial industry in the future.
